Portsmouth Historic Dockyard offers a selection of shopping outlets on site and a variety of eating and drinking establishments, including picnic areas with spectacular views.

Food & Drink

Sailors were generally well-nourished to keep spirits and energy levels high for their busy days aboard ship. At Portsmouth Historic Dockyard we continue this tradition, providing a range of cafés where you can lower the sails and enjoy a delicious hot lunch, reviving Costa coffee, or a refreshing cold drink with some tasty home-made treats.

  • Boathouse No. 7

Boathouse No.7 serves a range of hot meals including fish and chips, artisan stone-baked pizza and deli classics.

  • Boathouse No.4

The delicious menu includes everything from crab to steak to prawns to fish finger sandwiches, something for everyone including the children’s menu.

  • The Mary Rose café

Light meals, soups, sandwiches and cakes. Try a Mary Rose beer brewed by a local brewery and a tea specially blended in Portsmouth.

Picnic areas

For families and individuals who love a spot of al fresco dining, while taking in the salty sea air and spectacular views, there are three picnic areas to choose from. Porter's Garden is a quiet leafy sanctuary, while Port Arena allows visitors to enjoy a picnic lunch while marvelling at history in the flesh. For simpler tastes, take a pew outside Boathouse No.7, sit back and admire the fantastic architecture.

  • Porter's Garden

Enjoy your picnic in the peaceful and beautiful surroundings of Porter's Garden, lovingly maintained by our dedicated group of volunteers.

  • Boathouse No. 7

Sit outside our Boathouse No. 7 restaurant and admire the wonderful architecture of the Great Storehouses.

  • Camber Lights Café

When visiting Explosion Museum in Gosport, take in Portsmouth Harbour from The Camber Lights Café.

After your visit to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard you'll definitely want to take home a memento. With its three choices of shopping outlets, there's plenty to browse.
