2. Marvel at our magnificent 25ft Christmas tree
Christmas wouldn’t be the same without our giant spruce tree which takes centre stage alongside HMS Victory. If you time your visit right, you’ll be able to see the tree lit up with traditional fairy lights. You’ll feel festive for sure as you try to capture its scale.
3. Step onboard HMS M.33
Discover HMS M.33 on your winter adventure as you step onboard this legendary First World War ship. Her history includes supporting servicemen at the British landings in Suvla during the Battle of Gallipoli and the seizure of the Greek fleet at Salamis Bay in 1916.
4. Be wowed by a Tomahawk Cruise Missile
Take a bracing trip across to the Royal Navy Submarine Museum on the Waterbus to see a brand new addition to the collection, a Tomahawk Cruise Missile. With pin point accuracy, the Tomahawk can strike a target hundreds of miles away. The missile will be revealed on 6 December for all to see.
5. Treat yourself to a warming winter meal
A day out at the dockyard wouldn’t be complete without a delicious meal inside Boathouse 4 Restaurant. Enjoy panoramic views of Portsmouth Harbour or see traditional boatbuilding just below you. Or if you prefer something lighter, nibble on a mince pie or a homemade slice of cake.
6. Feel inspired by Tattoo: British Tattoo Art Revealed
Warm up inside the Babcock Gallery and see Tattoo: British Tattoo Art Revealed. The exhibition has welcomed tattoo lovers from near and far and continues to offer plenty of wow moments. See the exhibition until 6 January 2019 before it’s gone for good.
7. Wrap up warm on the top deck of HMS Victory
Whether misty or clear, the views from the top deck of HMS Victory are amazing and look out onto Portsmouth Naval Base and surrounding area. Spy Nelson’s plaque which shows the spot where he fell and be moved by the experience.
8. Work up a sweat on the climbing wall
You might normally associate fitness with a New Year resolution, but we feel the perfect way to warm up is on the giant climbing wall inside Action Stations. Take to the wall and see who can scale it the fastest.
9. Explore the dockyard on foot
Go for a wander through the dockyard this season and see your ships in a different light. Winter is the perfect time to take sunset snaps – so don’t forget to bring your camera. Entry to the dockyard is free unless you want to explore any ship or museum during your visit.

The modern Royal Navy wouldn’t be what it is without the exploits of Lord Nelson. Discover his story and his influence on naval warfare inside the Nelson Gallery. Follow his life from able seaman to Vice-Admiral and be astounded as his adventures at sea.
