How pirate arrre you? Find out in this hands on activity based session on a real ship. From handling a cutlass and flintlock pistol to role play and making a gruesome ship’s biscuit, this session will bring to life a time when putrid pirates ruled the waves!

New course: Victorian Christmas


Location: HMS Warrior 1860

Dates:  19th November – 29th November and 3rd December – 7th December

A perfect cross-curricular workshop at the most magical time of year, ideal for Key Stage 1. Travel back in time to experience all the sights and smells of Christmas past, with food, decorations and traditional toys.  Pupils will get the opportunity to immerse themselves in life on board ship with role-play and dressing up.  Finally, they will create their very own Christmas wish to take home, inspired by Victorian sailors.

Location: HMS Warrior 1860

In this popular storytelling session pupils will learn key vocabulary to describe HMS Warrior by listening for pleasure and joining in with the repetition of key words and phrases. A fun and interactive workshop: dressing up, role play and the chance to try out a hammock are all included. Pupils will also make a replica ship’s biscuit to take home.

Victorian Shipmates

New course: Victorian Shipmates KS1 & KS2

Location: HMS Warrior 1860

Join the Victorian Navy and explore life on board the mighty HMS Warrior. Through a range of interactive activities pupils will find out what jobs sailors did as well as seeing first- hand what the living conditions were like for the crew. What did they eat? How did Victorian medicine help them stay healthy… or not?

Pupils will have the opportunity to try out a hammock, handle real artefacts and take part in role play and dressing up which will bring the past to life.

Tours are subject to availability and must be booked in advance. Please note that students must be accompanied by their group leader or teacher.

£15 per 1 hour tour (+ £4.50 per student admission charge) Maximum 15 students per tour.

A Discovery Visit is a teacher-led, self-guided visit to one attraction within Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.

£4.50 for 1 attraction, £6.50 for two attractions and £8.50 for three attractions per student.
