Join Victorian tourists as you stroll along the top-deck, chat with the crew as they go about their duties, or venture down into the engine rooms get to grips with the machinery that revolutionised the Royal Navy.

SEE THE ‘IRON MARVEL’ FOR YOURSELF

HMS Warrior was Britain’s first iron-hulled, armoured battleship. Launched in 1860, when Britain’s dominance in trade and industry was at its peak, HMS Warrior was the pride of Queen Victoria’s fleet.

This new type of battleship signalled a significant evolution in the Royal Navy, being the first departure from traditional wooden ships. Despite being steam-powered HMS Warrior was also fitted with masts and enough sails to cover 13 tennis courts!

TRAVEL BACK IN TIME TO 1863

During her service HMS Warrior toured extensively, welcoming over 300,000 visitors during a 12-week tour of Britain in 1863. These cruises allowed the general public to see HMS Warrior in unprecedented detail and we have recreated this tradition for a modern audience.

Having been fully fitted out in her original splendour she is ready to continue welcoming visitors to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.

THE PINNACLE OF VICTORIAN INGENUITY

When built HMS Warrior was the most advanced ship in the world, an absolute terror of the ocean, and unlike anything that had come before.

Fitted with 202 armour plates, each weighing 4.8 tonnes, she was still capable of reaching speeds of 14.4 knots. This made her faster, more durable, and deadly in combat. It’s easy to see why she became Queen Victoria’s favourite ship.

IMMERSE YOURSELF IN HISTORY

Our ‘Dockyard Alive’ team bring Victorian England to life aboard HMS Warrior and bring her story to life before your eyes.

Meet the people who lived, breathed and worked aboard HMS Warrior during the peak of her service. Enjoy exploring her beautifully recreated interior, the burnished glory of her revolutionary engine rooms, and discover the secrets behind this iron-hulled legend.

WATCH: WARRIOR WEBCAM

From the mizzen mast of HMS Warrior comes a brand new high definition webcam that streams stunning views of Portsmouth Harbour and Gosport. After a short hiatus, the Warrior webcam makes a welcome return as you spy Royal Navy ships across the Camber and inside Portsmouth Naval Base.

The Warrior camera pans between 7am and 5pm daily in all weathers taking in the surrounding area in high fidelity.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: We are experiencing issues with the Warrior Webcam. We are working to fix these as apologise for the disruption.
