HMS Victory guided tours and free flow information

Please note that during off-peak periods guided tours of  HMS Victory are available.  These cannot be pre-booked and must be booked on your arrival at the Visitor Centre. During times when guided tours are operating, if you wish to visit the ship you will be allocated a slot to be taken round in groups of around 30 by experienced guides. The tour takes approximately 50 minutes.

Please note that demand is very high for these and they cannot be guaranteed so please do try to arrive as early as possible.

During our peak period visiting HMS Victory is on a 'free-flow' basis, when visits are unguided but our experienced guides are stationed around the ship to answer any questions you may have.

Portsmouth Historic DockyardOpening Times

The Historic Dockyard opens at 10am everyday throughout the year, except when closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
 
From April-October: Last  tickets to the attractions are sold at 4.30pm and the Dockyard gates are closed at 6.00pm
 
From November - March: Last tickets to the attractions are sold at 4.00pm and the Dockyard gates are closed at 5.30pm



Planned Closures

The following gives a brief description of the planned closures and changes in opening times at the attractions that have been announced in advance. If you would like to check details on the day you are visiting, please telephone the Visitor Centre on 023 9272 8060.

The Historic Dockyard is closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

Harbour Tours

A Harbour Tour is included free with an Annual Admission ticket, but additional tickets for the Harbour Tour can be purchased at the blue cabin on the jetty, just inside the Historic Dockyard. For more information please telephone 023 9272 8060.

HMS Victory

HMS Victory will be closed on Tuesday 15th July 2008 until 12pm.

Royal Naval Museum

The Victory Restoration section of the Victory Gallery will be the venue for our special exhibition Chasing Freedom marking the bicentenary of the abolition of the Transatlantic Slave Trade. Therefore this area will be unavailable until mid-2008.

Other Information

Photography and Media

Visitors can use flash cameras except in the Mary Rose Museum where light sensitive materials are on display.

No photography is allowed on board HMS Victory. At the Royal Naval Museum, no professional photography of any sort is allowed in the Museum galleries without the permission from the curatorial staff. Photography for personal reference is allowed but, to help preserve the collections on display, visitors are asked not to use flash photography. High quality reproductions of key items from the exhibitions are available as postcards and prints from the Museum's shops.

Dogs

Dogs are not permitted into the Historic Dockyard, with the exception of guide and registered assistance dogs.
