How to book

Group tickets for Portsmouth Historic Dockyard are now available to purchase via our website.

Groups must consist of a minimum of 15 paying persons and all group tickets are valid for one day only. You may purchase group tickets via the website up to the day before your visit date.

You may also purchase coach parking vouchers via the website which will then be emailed out to you one working day after purchase.

Please be aware that purchasing through the website is a pay-in-advance transaction and once complete, no refunds or exchanges can be given.

If you wish to pay-on-arrival or pay post-visit, you may do so at a lesser discount. Please contact our dedicated groups department if you wish to book a visit to be paid for on the day or post-visit and the relevant information will be sent to you.

If you wish to book one of the guided tour packages available to groups, please contact our groups department and a member of the team will be able to take you through the options and then process your request.

If you wish to book a combined visit to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and Spinnaker Tower, please contact our dedicated groups department and a member of the team will be able to take you through the options and then process your request.

Where do I get the Harbour Tour?

The Harbour Tour leaves from the jetty alongside HMS Warrior 1860 (subject to availability).

Do you provide catering packages for groups?

Boathouse No.7 and The Georgian Tearooms are available to book for your group, even if you are not visiting the attractions of Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, details can be found on our on site page.

When is the best time to visit?

Our busiest times are during the school holidays and at weekends, so if you would like to avoid the crowds, please book your group visit at other times.

Can I get a refund if I need to cancel?

Once tickets have been purchased through our website or via our groups department, no refunds or exchanges can be given.

How far in advance do I need to book?

Group tickets can be purchased via our website up to the day before visit. Bookings for special packages or a visit including Spinnaker Tower need to be booked at least 10 days before the visit date.

What is the minimum/maximum group size?

The minimum group size is 15. Subject to availability, our maximum group size is 200.

What hours are you open?

Our opening times can be viewed on our opening times page.

How long is a group ticket valid for?

The group ticket is valid for one day only.

What does the group ticket give me access to?

The all attraction ticket gives access to the Mary Rose , HMS Victory, HMS Warrior 1860, the National Museum Royal Navy Portsmouth, Action Stations and Harbour Tour. The single attraction ticket gives access to the specified single attraction only.

How to get here

Portsmouth Historic Dockyard is less than 5 miles from Junction 12 of the M27, follow the brown and white signs to “Historic Dockyard”.

A drop off and collection point is available at Queen Street, 300 metres from our entrance. Parking for coaches and minibuses is then available at points throughout the city (labelled on the map). A combined price of £10 for the coach drop off/colection point and all day parking is available.

PLEASE NOTE: As of the 1st September 2015 - A project to redevelop The Hard is currently underway, and there are changes in place that will affect coach travel to the Historic Dockyard site. Please download the attached information for full details

Discounts are available for groups of 15 people or more. We offer three ticket types for groups depending on the time you have available to spend with us...

  • Our great value six attraction ticket gives access to six attraction on the day of your visit
  • For those short on time you may opt for a Single Attraction ticket to visit just one of the attractions at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard
  • For a full Portsmouth experience, we offer a combined Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and Spinnaker Tower ticket
  • All group tickets include a complimentary trip on the highly popular Harbour Tour (subject to availability)

Prices and information

  • Groups must consist of a minimum of 15 paying persons
  • We have no maximum group size but larger groups will be divided into parties of 30-35
  • 25% discount for groups booking and paying 10 days before visit
  • 15% discount for groups booking and paying fewer than 10 days before visit
  • Special rates available for international student groups and youth groups who book and pay 10 days before the visit date
  • Exclusive behind-the-scenes tours and talks available for groups
  • Free entry for coach drivers and group leaders
  • £5 meal voucher for coach drivers (excluding event days and education visits)
  • Group tickets are valid for one day only

The following venues are available to book for your group, even if you are not visiting the attractions of Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.

Boathouse No.7 can accommodate large groups in their own reserved seating area. One, two or three course menus and cream teas are available. Call 023 9273 1552 to enquire or book.

HMS Victory:


Private tours of HMS Victory are available outside of public opening hours: Personal guided tours are available for up to 20 people for £225, plus an additional £10 per person. All prices exclude VAT. Please call 023 9283 9766 to enquire or make a booking.


HMS Warrior 1860:


Book an expert guide for a behind the scenes look at the ship that once made all others obsolete.


• 60-90 minute tour covering the history and technology of the ship — additional £5.00 per head on standard visit (minimum of 20 guests).


• 60–90 minute tour with specialist talk covering engineering, navigation and social history — additional £10.00 per head on standard visit (minimum of 10 guests). Please call 023 9283 9766 (option 3) to enquire or make a booking.


Action Stations, Boathouse No.6:


Behind the scenes tours of this historic boathouse focus on the building and its uses since construction in 1848 through to the installation of the present attraction, Action Stations, which brings to life the modern Royal Navy through interactive displays. £5.50 per head for groups of 15 people or more. The Mary Rose:

Why should children have all the fun? Visit the Mary Rose Museum with your group and upgrade your visit to include one of our special workshops for adults.

What Sank the Mary Rose? Explore the on-going mystery of the sinking of King Henry VIII’s favourite warship. Consider the conflicting evidence from contemporary sources and hear about new ideas on the subject then make up your own mind!
Guess the mystery objects to discover the astonishing breadth of the collection from the wreck.


Kill or Cure: Just how bad was Tudor Medicine? A light-hearted look at the evidence from the Surgeon’s cabin on the Mary Rose. What do the human remains tell us about the illnesses and injuries suffered by the men and the possible treatments?
Handle replica items from the Surgeon’s chest and investigate the use of herbal remedies on board.


Lost and Found: The Archaeology of the Mary Rose Whether you remember the raising of the Mary Rose in 1982 or not, discover the archaeological story from seabed to showcase. A huge feat of human endeavour, the Mary Rose project has transformed our understanding of Tudor history, maritime archaeology and conservation science.


Use microscopes to discover the conservation process and handle real rope and wood from the Mary Rose.


A ticket to the museum must also be purchased (single or Six Attraction). All talks are subject to availability of space and staffing.
