Phil Wright, an experienced secondary school history teacher with experience in both school and heritage environments, has joined Portsmouth Naval Base Property Trust as Learning Manager.
Having moved from Blackpool City Learning Centre, Phil will have responsibility for enhancing and delivering the learning offer at both Action Stations at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and Explosion! Museum of Naval Firepower.
Commenting on his new role Phil said: “Normally the thought of moving yourself and all your belongings from one end of the country to the other is the worst possible nightmare. However, the opportunity to work at Explosion! Museum and Action Stations has made it all worthwhile. Both sites steeped in history and for a self-professed history ‘boffin’ it is really a fabulous job to take on.
As a teacher the prospect of starting with almost a blank slate is something that we never get. When you get the chance to virtually design your own curriculum you jump at it and I’m looking forward to working here and seeing what Action Stations and Explosion! can become.”
Nick Hewitt, Head of Attractions & Collections at Portsmouth Naval Base Property Trust added: “Phil is absolutely brim-full of creative ideas already, and we are all really excited about his appointment.”
