History By Water Harbour Cruise
Visitors to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard can find out what happens on the water surrounding the Naval Base and discover hundreds of years of naval history with a special event courtesy of the National Museum of the Royal Navy.
On Saturday 10th July, the National Museum of the Royal Navy (NMRN) takes to the water for a History by Water Cruise around Portsmouth Harbour. Visitors can find out more about the rich history of the area from the fleet’s anchorage at Spithead, through to the harbour defences and support facilities dotted around its shore, whilst enjoying a leisurely afternoon boat tour.
During the 90 minute trip Dave Allport will draw on his 34 years service with the Royal Navy and more recently with the Queen’s Harbour Master Staff to give a fascinating commentary about the ships, buildings and landmarks the boat passes, as well as some of the people who lived and worked in them.
The NMRN has charted a 250-seat vessel for the occasion so passengers can admire the views from the large open viewing deck or sit below on the covered deck. Refreshments are also available from the bar onboard.
Tours depart from the Waterbus landing stage, Portsmouth Historic Dockyard at 2.30pm and booking is essential.
