News release issued: 29th October 2009

Visitors to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard were treated to a special performance today by the Air Cadet Marching Band. Following in the footsteps of the Royal Marines Band, the Air Cadets performed in the Starboard Arena of Portsmouth Historic Dockyard; under the magnificent gaze of HMS Victory.

The band was formed from the cadets who make up the Air Cadet Organisation (ACO). The majority are from Air Training Corps Squadrons across the country and included one cadet from the RAF Section at Wellington School CCF.

Cadets travelled from all across the country, the furthest being from Northern Scotland near Inverness. The ages of the cadets were between 13 - 20, playing traditional marching band instruments, corps of drums, bell lyres and bagpipes. There were 110 cadets in total performing in the band.

The cadets are all experienced performers playing at local carnivals and prestigious events, including a royal garden party at Buckingham Palace.

Lt Cdr Whild - the Commanding Officer of HMS Victory took the salute, before welcoming the cadets onboard HMS Victory for a guided tour.

The cadets were preparing for ''Cadet 150'', which promises to be one of the most memorable and fun-packed years in the all four Cadet Forces'' history, and with very good reason as 2010 is their 150th birthday.
