John Bray, the latest addition to the Quartermaster staff onboard HMS Warrior 1860, has been awarded a Certificate of Meritorious Service for his dedicated service to the Sea Cadet Corps and to the Woking Unit TS Dianthus.

John completed his service at Woking in 2008 after 13 years in the Corps, with the final ten years as Commanding Officer. During that time, Woking became a consistent Pennant Unit.

The Award was presented by the Lord Lieutenant's representative Lt Cdr (SCC) R Mitchell RNR, onboard HMS Warrior 1860 on Saturday 04 July 2009. Lt Cdr Mitchell stated that John particularly deserved this award for his endeavours in the Sea Cadets Corp and it was a great pleasure to be able to present it to him.

John very proudly commented, “I am very pleased to receive this award. I was a volunteer with the cadet forces for over 13 years.  For any young person looking to try something different the various volunteer groups, whether it is the Scouts, Guides, Sea, Army or Air Cadets Corps, all offer something that is sure to be enjoyable and challenging".

John described the Quartermaster position on HMS Warrior 1860 as his “dream job” as he feels that working onboard a ship with a fascinating history will provide some very different challenges to his previous employment.
