The hidden treasure that is the No6. Cinema in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, is being re-launched on Saturday 18 July 2009, with the support of the Portsmouth Naval Base Property Trust and Action Stations.
The cinema, which is managed and programmed by Simon Middleton and Siri Furness, has a policy of screening world cinema''s best new and recent releases, together with cult and classic movies in a spectacular 275 seat auditorium.
The re-launched No6. Cinema will now boast a selection of refreshments including wine as well as soft drinks. Also for sale will be a selection of second hand books and classic film posters chosen by Simon and Siri.
This season’s films range from the heartbreaking to the hilarious; highlights among them include Charlie Kauffman’s Palme D’Or nominated feature, a Manchester United legend, the first onscreen reunion of the stars of Y tu Mama Tambien, and a haunting Swedish take on the vampire myth.
The No6. Cinema is also very proud to present two screenings of Il Divo, Paolo Sorrentino’s astonishing indictment of Giulio Andreotti, who governed Italy between 1972 and ‘92. Winner of the 2008 Prix du Jury at Cannes, Il Divo was hailed by Variety to be “An intensely political film so wildly inventive and witty that it will become a touchstone for years to come”.
Cinema-goers attending on the opening night can look forward to being welcomed with a complimentary glass of wine prior to the screening of the opening film, the bittersweet French satire, Gardens in Autumn, which starts at 8.00pm.
Cinema listings can be found at the website www.no6cinema.co.uk.
Individual ticket prices are £6 with concessions at £4.50 and children under 15 at £3.50. Tickets can be booked by calling 0781 5650753. The auditorium will open 20mins before screenings.
