Visitors to experience The Royal Navy as past and present combine
Portsmouth Historic Dockyard provides a fitting backdrop to combine the navy's past and present, as it teams up with Portsmouth Naval Base for a brand new event, Royal Navy Past and Present, from Saturday 26th - Bank Holiday Monday 28th May 2007, 10am - 5.30pm.
During the weekend, visitors will have the rare opportunity to step on board serving naval warships HMS Kent a type 23 frigate and fishery protection vessel HMS Mersey.
In light of the commemorations of the 25th anniversary of the Falklands conflict, an exclusive guided boat trip, viewing the Falklands warships HMS Fearless and HMS Intrepid and including a commentary by Falklands veterans will be available at 10.15am throughout the event and Task Force South: The Royal Navy and the Falklands War, the new exhibition at the Royal Naval Museum, will also be available to view.
The Historic Dockyard will be transformed by a programme of music, theatre and entertainment representing both Navy past and present, including The Royal Marines Band and physical training displays.
For a hands-on, hectic way to experience the modern navy, Action Stations can offer the chance for visitors to fly a helicopter, command a warship and visit the £1 million InterAction Gallery, to discover the science behind marine technology.
Royal Navy Past and Present is free with an all-inclusive ticket, although all entry to HMS Kent, HMS Mersey and street entertainment is free. An all-inclusive ticket costs: adult £16.50, child, £12.00, senior £14.00, family £48 (up to 5 members of the same family) and includes entry to the Mary Rose Museum and Ship Hall, HMS Victory, HMS Warrior 1860, Royal Naval Museum and Action Stations and a Harbour Tour, 50 minute boat trip, (standard boat trip).
