Countdown to Meet Your Navy
News release issued: 23rd July 2008Prepare to be amazed this weekend as Portsmouth Naval Base launches its long awaited summer spectacular, Meet Your Navy.
The three day event is sure to wow the crowds as Portsmouth Naval Base plays host to visiting ships, dazzling displays and a full programme of music and entertainment.
Thousands of visitors are expected to arrive from Friday 25th July to meet the modern day Royal Navy, find out about its future and take a fascinating journey into its past.
A cast of hundreds of historical re-enactors will rub shoulders with the men and women of the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Royal Fleet Auxiliary and other members of Britain’s Armed Forces.
Meet Your Navy gives visitors an exceptional opportunity to discover more about naval ancestors. A panel of historical experts will be on hand daily throughout the event to answer questions on naval family history.
Portsmouth Historic Dockyard has also teamed up with Marie Curie Cancer Care to offer fundraisers the unique opportunity to fly across a zip wire to raise money for the charity. A photo opportunity not to be missed!
