HMS Victory, the Mary Rose and HMS Warrior 1860 have all been selected as contenders for UKTV History’s Britain’s Best Campaign, a new annual celebration of the nation’s most treasured historical hot-spots. The campaign aims to encourage the public to visit, value and vote for the historical places that matter most to them. Visitors to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard will have the opportunity to combine their visit to the Historic Dockyard with their vote.
Hosted by Alan Titchmarsh, the campaign will involve two television series and a final programme presenting the winner as decided by the British public.
Voting can take place from April 5th to August 27th in the Visitor Centre at the Historic Dockyard or by:
Visitors will also get the chance to vote for and review the Historic Dockyard itself as this has also been entered into UKTV History’s Britain’s Best directory at www.uktvhistory.co.uk. The directory will help people find some of the best historical locations to visit across the UK, as well as reviews, pictures and videos for each place from people who have actually been there.
Portsmouth Royal Dockyard dates back to 1194 and was once the greatest industrial complex in the world. It is now home to three of the greatest warships ever built, HMS Victory, but also the Mary Rose and HMS Warrior 1860 as well as the Royal Naval Museum, one of the UK’s leading maritime museums and Action Stations, an interactive showcase of the modern Navy. These combined with magnificent historic buildings and docks, the Historic Dockyard embodies both Britain’s naval past and future.
