The new Mary Rose Museum - NOW OPEN!

The exciting, new £27 million Mary Rose Museum opened its doors to visitors on Friday 31st May 2013. Located just metres from Nelson's flagship, HMS Victory and the ships of the modern Royal Navy, the new museum provides one of the most significant insights into Tudor life in the world and creates the new centrepiece to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.

The Tudor ship that captured the world's imagination when she was raised from the seabed in 1982 is the only sixteenth century warship on display anywhere in the world and the brand new Museum built around her reunites her with many of her 19,000 artefacts and crew.

The new boat-shaped Museum showcases the very best of 21st century architecture and construction, where for the first time visitors will see the ship with its preserving sprays switched off and the final phase of the hull's conservation through windows into a 'hotbox' as up to 100 tons of water is removed from the ship's timbers.

The most comprehensive collection of Tudor artefacts in the world is showcased from personal belongings such as wooden bowls, leather shoes, musical instruments and nit combs complete with 500 year old lice to ship's objects such as longbows and two tonne guns. For the first time, using forensic science, crew members will be brought to life giving visitors the chance to come face-face with the carpenter, cook, archer and even the ship's dog, 'Hatch'!

Visiting the New Museum:

You will need a timed entry slot to visit the new Museum. These can be selected when you purchase your ticket online in advance. Our great value All Attraction tickets give entry to all of the Historic Dockyard attractions (Mary Rose Museum, HMS Victory, HMS Warrior 1860, National Museum of the Royal Navy, Action Stations and Harbour Tours) or you can opt for a Single Attraction ticket to one attraction of your choice. Time slots for the new Museum are not transferable so please be sure that you are able to attend your selected time slot. Click here to buy tickets.

If you already have a ticket that includes entry to the new Mary Rose Museum you will need to book your timed entry slot on your arrival at the Visitor Centre on the day you visit. This can't be done in advance either online or by telephone and time slots will be issued on a first come, first served basis. If there are no time slots left available we will be running a free-flow, first-come, first-served system for entry to the Museum at 4.30pm. We will do our very best to accommodate you but entry can't be guaranteed.
