Head of Operations - Mary Rose Museum

The Mary Rose Museum is looking for a Head of Operations for the new state of the art museum.

The construction phase of the new state of the art Mary Rose Museum in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard is nearing completion. The museum will reunite Henry VIII’s warship with her amazing collection of Tudor artefacts. This world class museum will tell the story of the ship and her crew through a series of context galleries, hands-on experiences and audio visual interpretations. Once open the museum is rapidly expected to gain a high national and international profile. There is now an exciting and unique opportunity for a Head of Operations to manage and prepare the museum and its staff for its public opening later in the year and then manage its day to day operation and commercial activities going forward.

The Role:
• Managing the operation of the museum and
leading a dedicated team of staff and volunteers, to provide a world class visitor experience and extensive learning and outreach programme.
• Managing the commercial enterprise including the retail and catering operation, developing the corporate events capability and growing the museum’s commercial opportunities.
• Working closely with the Heads of Collections, Learning and Interpretation to ensure a leading edge visitor attraction and learning environment is delivered.

The Candidate:
• A first class manager with the ability to motivate, lead and inspire with strong relationship building, influencing and stakeholder management skills.
• Commercially adept with strong operations
management experience ideally gained within business or the arts and cultural domain with a strong focus on customer and visitor experience.
• An innovator with creative flair able to keep the museum and its commercial activities constantly evolving in a competitive environment.
