Principal Heritage Advisor (HMS Victory)
Salary: £26,000 - £31,000 per annum (dependent upon experience)
37.5 hours per week – permanent
The National Museum of the Royal Navy is the UK’s newest National Museum. We are recruiting an experienced Principal Heritage Advisor within the expanding Historic Ships Conservation Team based in Portsmouth. The successful candidate will be part of a friendly, multidisciplinary team of museum professionals, conservators and shipwrights committed to high quality professional work maintaining and conserving historic ships. The majority of your time will be spent on the HMS Victory Project, a 15 year long capital works programme designed to stabilise and conserve Britain’s most important historic ship.
Work will include appraising the heritage impact of all proposed works affecting the fabric of the ship and No. 2 Dock, assisting in the implementation of the Conservation Management Plan for the ship and providing expert advice to colleagues and contractors on all matters in respect of heritage, conservation and impact assessment.
This team sits within the Heritage Directorate and focusses on ships within Portsmouth, but also works with other teams across the UK, including Hartlepool and Belfast.
Located within Portsmouth Historic Dockyard the role provides an excellent opportunity to be involved in interesting and challenging heritage work within historic ships. As part of an established and dynamic team, the post provides the opportunity to work as part of a unique project and gain experience in the field of historic ships’ conservation.
This post does require someone with experience in heritage consultancy or a comparable role, who has demonstrable experience in producing Desk-based Assessments, Options Appraisals and Heritage Impact Assessments. Equally the individual should expect and have experience in physically working onsite alongside a changing team of contractors.
