As part of Portsmouth Festivities - (Thursday 17 - Sunday 27 June)

The voyage of HMS Challenger was a scientific circumnavigation of the world that lasted almost four years and covered 69,000 miles. Challenger left Portsmouth in December 1872 and returned in May 1876, having travelled as far as the Great Ice Barrier of Antarctica, Nova Scotia, the Caribbean, South Africa, and Indonesia. Richard Corfield has brought this story magnificently to life in his book The Silent Landscape and will take us through this epic journey and his own discovery of the world of the oceans.
