'Ghost Ship: A Pageant for Portsmouth'

Jun 28 2009

Portsmouth Festivities

Sunday 28 June

From 2pm

Starting from Portsmouth Historic Dockyard to Southsea Castle

Celebrate the 500th Anniversary of King Henry VIII’s coronation and the commissioning of his favourite warship, the Mary Rose, with a spectacular Pageant inspired by the Tudors - sailors, shipwrights, flag bearers, and musicians will fill the streets with colour.

This free celebration will engage local communities in a programme of workshops which culminates on Sunday 28 June, Henry VIII’s birthday, with a procession from the Mary Rose at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard through Old Portsmouth to Southsea Castle.  Performance, living history, music, a food fair and a picnic will culminate with a twilight fire spectacle involving the Ghost Ship, carrying the Mary Rose into the future.

Further details will be available soon.  Visit www.portsmouthfestivities.co.uk
